[...] a couple who's been together long enough to stop performing for anyone.

Hilda and her husband were in town visiting and wanted a few quick portraits to remember the trip. Nothing complicated, nothing rehearsed.

They weren't used to being in front of a camera, so most of the work was making them feel like they didn't have to be. We kept it simple. A walk through downtown, a few corners with good light, a little laughter to loosen the shoulders.

The photos came out warmer than I expected. There's something quietly beautiful about shooting a couple who's been together long enough to stop performing for anyone. They held hands like muscle memory, looked at each other instead of the lens, and the city did the rest.

Sometimes the best frames come from people who weren't trying to make any.
